Most standard oil pans seem to work fine on standard engines however the moment you start to use a standard car in a high performance situation you risk serious engine damage. Increased horsepower and acceleration can cause your engine oil to run away from the oil pick-up leading to a loss of oil pressure and then engine failure. Oil is an engine’s life blood. A reliable flow of relatively cool pressurised oil through your engine prevents metal to metal contact and helps to keep your engine from overheating and suffering from premature wear. All engines require a pressurised film of oil between the crankshaft, main crank journals and the conrods. The moment that oil flow is interrupted, metal to metal contact can occur damaging the conrod and crank bearings This can lead to bearing failure a destroyed engine.

Our high performance and racing oil pans are also fitted with a crank windage tray that separates the crankshaft from the oil reservoir and is designed to prevent the turbulence created by the crankshaft from blowing the oil out of the bottom of the oil pan. A well designed windage tray is capable of providing extra power by reducing the friction caused by oil drag on the crankshaft. This in turn increases the motor's mechanical efficiency.
